April 13-24: Soles4Souls Shoe Drive

Clean out your closets and help the needy, too!

The third grade is collecting used and outgrown shoes.  We will mail them to Soles4Souls.

From there, the shoes will be sent to needy feet all over the world.

Our Shoe Drive begins Monday, April 13 and ends Friday, April 24.

April 13-May 6: Get on the Bus Ministry

For ten years, OMS has been involved in the Get on the Bus, a program that brings children throughout the state of California to visit their mothers and fathers in prison.

Some quick facts:

* In 2006, OMS helped launch the very first Father's Day event, which was held at the California Men's Colony.

* An interfaith community of over 50 organizations has come together to answer the call.

* This year, nine buses of children will travel to visit their fathers at San Luis Obispo's California Men's Colony on May 30.

* OMS families can support the program by donating teddy bears and supplies to fill "Stay-in-Touch" bags.

* These bags will help the children communicate with their fathers when the children return home.

* Tithing collected on the five Fridays after Easter break during morning assembly will also help pay for a bus.

We Need Your Help!

Please make after-school/sibling/tutoring arrangements with your children before you drop them off at school each day.

The office is being swamped by parents calling (sometimes 2-3 times a day!) asking for a message to be given to their children before school dismisses.  These calls really add up and create unnecessary additional work in our already very busy front office.

Also, if your child is ill or cannot attend school, please call or email the school office at 543-6019 before 9:00 AM. This is very important. BJ will have to call you if you do not call in, and you can help her avoid a cumbersome task. So, we thank you in advance for teaming with her to protect your children.

We appreciate your assistance with these requests!

Nativity Summer Session is Back!

We are pleased to announce the third-annual Summer Session Program at Nativity.

This year, the program will be six weeks long, running from June 22 through July 31.

The daily schedule will be similar to the existing program. Classes will run from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM with before-school care beginning at 7:45 and afternoon care ending at 5:30. The cost of the program is $500. Extended-care costs will continue to be $5.00 per hour.

This program is open to all Nativity students enrolled for the 2015-2016 school year, including incoming first graders.

For more information, email or call Jillian Iverson at 548-0242.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, so please don't hesitate to contact Jillian.

We look forward to seeing you in the summer!

OMS Extended Care Policy

There have been some questions regarding the after school care sign in.  Here are the official requirements:

1)  The official clock for determining check-in and check-out time for extended care is the clock in room 9.

2)  With the staggered dismissal schedule, charges for care will not start until 3:10 PM. But at 3:10 PM, every student still on the school grounds must be supervised by a school staff member (a coach, a teacher, or the ASA staff). Siblings of students on a sports team must be signed in ASA. Siblings of students being tutored must be signed into ASA, unless they, too, are with a tutor.

3)  Students whose parents are meeting with a teacher must wait outside the classroom on a bench if  they are not part of the conference. If they want to play on the school grounds, they must be signed into ASA.

4)  Only adults listed on the emergency card may pick up students in ASA.

ASA telephone number after 3:45 PM is 548-0299

OMS Legacy Campaign OMS Legacy Campaign

We are pleased to share with you a new vision for Old Mission School, the development of a downtown satellite campus to serve our growing middle school population.

Recently, Old Mission Church offered to make available its share of a property on Palm Street, directly across from the Mission parking lot, for the purpose of creating a Middle School satellite campus only two blocks from the present school site.  The property is owned jointly by the Church and the Catholic schools of San Luis Obispo and presently houses the OMS business office. The new campus would be home to four new classrooms, a restroom facility, and an office and a teacher prep area.

For more information, please visit the OMS Legacy Campaign page.

Old Mission School Teachers are now Online and on Twitter!

OMS teachers now have individual wiki pages containing live twitter feeds with classroom updates.

OMS

Every teacher's wiki page will provide regular updates regarding homework assignments, class news, and important announcements.

If you have a Twitter account, make sure to "follow" your children's teachers. If you don't have a Twitter account, don't worry. It is not necessary for you to have one in order to view teachers' Twitter feeds - just click on one of the following links:

If you need to get in touch with a teacher, please continue to either call or send an email (we're new to Twitter and want to make sure we are able to get back to you in a timely manner).
