October is Respect Life Month

Our students are collecting items for the very young and the very old in honor of Respect Life Month throughout October.

Families may donate items for babies, which will be given to ALPHA. We are also collecting items for the elderly such as lotions, slippers, large print crossword puzzles, talcum powder, and other items that will be given to care centers.

ALPHA items may be turned into Stefani Higuera in room 4. Items for the elderly may be turned in to Mary Donnelly in room 3.

Here is a list of what's "hot" with the elderly at the care centers:

* Lipstick
* Non-skid soled slippers
* Hair doodads
* Socks
* Shower and baby powders
* Perfumes and colognes
* Large print decks of cards
* Large print crossword an puzzle books
* Coloring books and crayons!

The following items are not acceptable as donations:

* Hair spray (flammable)
* Shampoos and soaps (these are already supplied)

Thank you for your support!

Happy Shopping!

OMS Student Store Website

Did you know Old Mission School has a student store website?

You will be able to pick up the ordered merchandise at J. Carrol or Old Mission School at no extra charge.  Also, you can have the items shipped to your home or work at the cost of shipping.

Items marked "OMS Uniform Approved" for easy shopping.   Look for the "approved" stamp to ensure that it is dress-code and uniform appropriate. Please note that just because the item was purchased on the student store website, does not mean it adheres to the dress-code guidelines (with the exception of backpacks and lunch bags.)

The merchandise is the same clothing items that have been ordered for the last few years. However, there has been another jacket option added to the "Logo Items" section. Sample sizes of all the merchandise will be available at J. Carrol - 113 Cross St., SLO (behind Trader Joe's).

We have sample sizes of the sweatshirts only at OMS. In the meantime, head to J. Carroll and try on the merchandise for the best fit.

Their web address is:

Release of Students

During the school day, we will release your son/daughter only to those people listed on his/her emergency card.

If you are planning to have a friend, relative, or neighbor whose name is not on the emergency card pick up your child from school, you must send a note with your child. We cannot release students without written permission from parents. By law, a telephone call will not be sufficient for student release.

We Need Your Help!

Please make after-school/sibling/tutoring arrangements with your children before you drop them off at school each day.

The office is being swamped by parents calling (sometimes 2-3 times a day!) asking for a message to be given to their children before school dismisses.  These calls really add up and create unnecessary additional work in our already very busy front office.

Also, if your child is ill or cannot attend school, please call or email the school office at 543-6019 before 9:00 AM. This is very important. BJ will have to call you if you do not call in, and you can help her avoid a cumbersome task. So, we thank you in advance for teaming with her to protect your children.

 We appreciate your assistance with these requests!

OMS Extended Care Policy

There have been some questions regarding the after school care sign in.  Here are the official requirements

1)  The official clock for determining check-in and check-out time for extended care is the clock in room nine.

2)  With the staggered dismissal schedule, charges for care will not start until 3:10 PM. But at 3:10 PM, every student still on the school grounds must be supervised by a school staff member (a coach, a teacher, or the ASA staff). Siblings of students on a sports team must be signed in ASA. Siblings of students being tutored must be signed into ASA, unless they, too, are with a tutor.

3)  Students whose parents are meeting with a teacher must wait outside the classroom on a bench if they are not part of the conference. If they want to play on the school grounds, they must be signed into ASA.

4)  Only adults listed on the emergency card may pick up students in ASA.

ASA telephone number after 3:45 PM is 548-0299

OMS Legacy Campaign OMS Legacy Campaign

 We are pleased to share with you a new vision for Old Mission School, the development of a downtown satellite campus to serve our growing middle school population.

Recently, Old Mission Church offered to make available its share of a property on Palm Street, directly across from the Mission parking lot, for the purpose of creating a Middle School satellite campus only two blocks from the present school site.  The property is owned jointly by the Church and the Catholic schools of San Luis Obispo and presently houses the OMS business office. The new campus would be home to four new classrooms, a restroom facility, and an office and a teacher prep area.

For more information, please visit the OMS Legacy Campaign page.

Old Mission School Teachers are now Online and on Twitter!

OMS teachers now have individual wiki pages containing live twitter feeds with classroom updates.

OMSEvery teacher's wiki page will provide regular updates regarding homework assignments, class news, and important announcements.

If you have a Twitter account, make sure to "follow" your children's teachers. If you don't have a Twitter account, don't worry. It is not necessary for you to have one in order to view teachers' Twitter feeds - just click on one of the following links:

If you need to get in touch with a teacher, please continue to either call or send an email (we're new to Twitter and want to make sure we are able to get back to you in a timely manner).
